University of Buea at 30: Prof Dorothy Njeuma hailed for laying foundation of excellence

As the University of Buea’s 30th anniversary celebration kicked off at Amphi 750 this morning, the institution’s first Vice Chancellor, Prof Dorothy Njeuma, came to the spotlight, as speakers hailed her for laying a solid foundation for the University’s excellence.

From the Presbyterian Church Pastor, Rev Mukoko Mbue Thomas, who gave the sermon, to the current Vice Chancellor, Prof Horace Ngomo Manga, Dorothy Njeuma received accolades for making UB a place to be.

“If UB is much talked about everywhere, in the media, international fora, in the country… it is thanks to what Professor Dorothy Limunga Njeuma put in place,” Prof Ngomo Manga said, receiving wide applaud from the crowd.

He also hailed the other three former Vice Chancellors who have reigned before him, stating that they have left a legacy of honesty, integrity, transparency and service, which are today driving the University of Buea.

The Vice Chancellor’s brief remarks, which officially opened the 30th anniversary celebration, had been preceded by a forceful sermon from Rev Mukoko Mbue Thomas, pastor of the Presbyterian Church and a first-batch student of the University of Buea.

His message centred on the impact UB had created for 30 years now, and he noted that, like Jesus Christ who began his ministry at 30, UB is just starting.

Rev Mukoko said Prof Dorothy Njeuma gave the University of Buea a sense of purpose and focus that has made the citadel of learning a place to be.

The first day of the anniversary celebration rounded off with a visit to exhibition stands set up by the various faculties and departments of the institution.

The began about 9am with a march past from the first gate of the University’s main campus to Amphitheatre 750, where the Ecumenical service held.

The anniversary celebration continues on Friday with an alumni conference, said Prof Kingsley Ngange, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Teaching, Research and Cooperation.
