The University of Douala has suspended Mintoume Simeon Clotaire, Head of the Department of Communication in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.

This follows allegations of gross misconduct, including sexual harassment.

This decision, announced on October 17, 2024, by the Rector, Pr. Magloire Ondoa, comes on the heels of serious violations of ethical and professional conduct within the institution.

According to Decision No. 24-1431, the suspension, which is indefinite, and takes immediate effect, was prompted by allegations of harassment of female students, tampering with academic grades, and violation of university ethics and professional deontology.

This action is taken in line with Decree No. 93/026 of January 19, 1993, which outlines the establishment of universities in Cameroon, and other governing decrees regulating academic institutions.

The suspension of Mintoume shines a light of hope among students and the greater moral society.

Issues of professional misconduct have most often been raised, with office heads using their positions to prey on their subordinates.

The University’s swift and decisive action, aims to maintain its reputation as a centre of academic excellence that prioritizes ethical behaviour and respect for students.

Meanwhile, the Rector stated that the decision will be widely publicized and that internal investigations are ongoing to ensure that justice is served and appropriate measures are taken to safeguard the welfare of the student body.
