A car belonging to the late Jakiri Subdivision Al Delegate of ELECAM, Yufela Gilbert, who was murdered at his Bamenda resident on Tuesday, was found on the city’s outskirts on Friday, January 20.
Yufela Gilbert’s car was found on Friday morning at Upstation where there is a billboard reading ‘Welcome to Bamenda.’
Family members say he was shot dead on Tuesday, January 17, at his resident at Foncha Street, Bamenda, by Ambazonia separatist fighters who also fled with his car.
The car was found on the roadside partially destroyed and it is suspected it might have been involved in an accident.
Also, there is a possibility that the armed men were unable “to take the vehicle out of Bamenda due to numerous police and military checkpoints that have now surrounded the Northwest capital city due to frequent separatist incursions,” narrated a source.
The Jakiri ELECAM chief was killed in the wake of preparations for senatorial elections in the country, which are scheduled for March.
ELECAM has however sent out no public information about his death. In fact, the elections management body shocked many Cameroonians when it quickly appointed a new person on Thursday to replace Yufela Gilbert.
He is one among two of Cameroon’s elections officials who were killed this week in the Northwest region.
Also, the ELECAM boss in Momo Division was murdered on Thursday after he was severely beaten by the mob for his alleged involvement in a local robbery.
He died at a hospital and was replaced by hierarchy on the same day.
