A local arc welder in the North West Region by name Akong Gilbert is victim to arbitrary arrests constantly made by the military in the two English speaking regions of Cameroon. The denizen is suspected by the Cameroon defence forces of producing local bullets and supplying to the separatists fighters.
The welder was yesterday taken from his place of work while he was on duty at the market in chomba.
Family relatives and friends of the accused however are denying the accusations levied upon their brother, calling the claims false and unfounded. They say he is solely dedicated to his work and has had no contact with the separatist fighters.
Like the other series of arbitrary arrests that have been made by the Cameroon defence forces in the past, no mention was made as to where Akong Gilbert was being taken to. A family member of the arrested says the latest they have heard of his whereabouts are unconfirmed reports saying he has been taken to the BIR camp in Bafut.
Akong Gilbert is a dedicated private Welder and is a father of 4 kids, 3 girls and 1 boy. Looking down memory lane at how some of such arrests have often panned out to be, Gilbert’s friends and family are deeply saddened and concerned by what could possibly happen to Gilbert. Many arrests done by military officials on account of complicity with the separatist fighters have often led to summary executions without trials or investigations. Some of them in a very gruesome manner.
It was the case with late Sam Soya, who was practically slaughtered on camera with the military on an account of complicity with the separatist fighters.
Same thing was the fate of a woman in Nseh village in Bui division who is currently on the run after he home was completely razed down by the military because she allegedly sold some of her palm wine to separatist fighters in the area.
