Lectures have been suspended in some lecture halls at the university of Yaounde 1.
This is according to a release signed by the rector of the institution Monday 16 March, limiting the gathering of people to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Prof. Maurice Aurelien Soso says lectures have been been suspended at amphitheatre 1001, 1002, 1003, 501, 502, 300, 250 and 200. The decision runs from today March 17th to April 13th 2020.
Going by the decision, lectures will be taking place in other smaller lecture halls that do not require a greater number of people.
In other state universities like Ngaoudere, Buea, Bamenda, Maroua, Yaounde 2 and other higher state owned institutions , other preventive measures of washing of hands with soap regularly and avoiding body contacts are in force but lectures have not been suspended.
Critics are questioning why the minister of higher education cannot adopt a general preventive measure for all higher education.
