Following his nomination as presidential candidate for the Liberal Alliance Party, historian and leadership coach, Ateki Seta Caxton, has resigned from his position as Executive Director of NewSeta, an apolitical organization which he founded to train youths on leadership.
His resignation was announced in a statement signed by Dr. A.S. Bernard N. McCarthy, on behalf of the organization’s Board of Directors.
“The Network for Solidarity, Empowerment and Transformation for All (NewSETA) announces the immediate resignation of Mr. Ateki Seta Caxton from his position as Executive Director,” the statement read.
“This follows his decision to seek a new political role as a candidate in the 2025 Presidential elections in Cameroon. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Mr. Ateki Seta Caxton, the founder and prime architect of NewSETA, whose unwavering dedication and visionary leadership have been instrumental in shaping our mission. As he transitions into a career in politics, we honour his legacy and his profound commitment to driving transformation and empowering communities through NewSETA,” it added.
Mr Ateki, 39, was declared Presidential candidate of the Liberal Alliance Party at a Congress in Yaounde on July 12.
This was the first time the party was investing a candidate for Cameroon’s Presidential election since its creation in 1991 by HRM Celestin Bedzigui.
Seta will be championing the party’s vision, which includes ending the prolonged armed conflict in the Anglophone Regions of the country; dumping the francs CFA and creating Cameroon’s own currency; leaving the IMF and curbing youth unemployment.
His resignation from NewSeta was aimed at separating his political views from those of the youth-led organisation, which has sworn to be apolitical.
“As a civil society organisation, NewSETA affirms its apolitical stance and will not endorse any political candidate or party. Our commitment to our core values and mission remains unwavering,” the organization wrote.
It added that a new person has been appointed to Ateki Seta Caxton’s position to continue running the organization.
