Barrister Fotso Fostine Kamdem is said to have attended court sessions twice in total disrespect of the ongoing five day sit in strike by lawyers in Cameroon.
Speaking to Vision 4 television on Thursday September 19th 2019 in Yaounde, Bar. Fotso Fostine Kamdem attests that she defended her client at the Appeal Court in Douala on Tuesday September 17th and was equally at full service in court Thursday 19th in Yaounde. On why she has opted not to respect the strike called by the President of the bar council Bar. Charles Patie Tchakonte, the lawyer and one time Member of Parliament says a lawyer is like a medical doctor and has to attend to the worries of clients when necessary.
She has also called on other lawyers to go about their professional activities but has however not reacted to the said violation of the rights of lawyers and their clients in Cameroon; the main reason for the strike action.
The Cameroon bar association is yet to issue an official reaction on what punishment can be meted on a lawyer for violating a collective decision of the bar for personal reasons, but had promised to punish anyone that goes against it.
Lawyers are currently observing a nationwide strike that ends tomorrow to for reasons they say include inadequate access to their clients in detention or in prisons, brutalization of lawyers by the military or the police service, exorbitant fees charged their clients by courts in prison amongst others.
