Three recently kidnapped businessmen from Kumba, Meme Division of the South West Region have been released after reportedly giving in and paying a whooping ransom of 12 million FCFA.

According to reports, they were initially four in number when the unidentified gunmen intercepted them while they were on their way to Douala. They were taken at Ediki, a locality in Mbonge Subdivision.

One of the kidnapped victims is a renowned businessman, and owner of a popular snack bar in Kumba and a wine shop. The other victims also owned private business places in Fiango

They were taken into the bush by the heavily armed men. Fortunately for one of the kidnapped businessmen, he was able to escape the same night the kidnap took place.

Reports on Express FM RADIO 91.5 say he pleaded with his abductors to ease himself and a guard was sent to escort him. After taking a few steps away from the guard, he descended a slope and disappeared into the dark. He is reported to have called the military after trekking to a safe location and was picked up and taken back to Kumba.”

They were however released after the trio was able to settle their abductors with an alleged sum of 12 million FCFA.

The identity of the kidnappers is not known at the moment.
