A man in Bafoussam III on November 24 teamed up with armed individuals to kidnap his seven-year-old nephew and demand for a ransom of FCFA 3 million.
Taking advantage of the parents’ absence, armed assailants arrived on a motorbike and whisked the child to an undisclosed location 15 kilometers from Baleng.
The following day, the child’s caretaker received a chilling phone call demanding a ransom of FCFA 3 million for the boy’s release.
The gendarmerie of Baffoussam’s anti-criminality unit promptly received the case.
The officers, led by the Head of Brigade of Anti-Criminality at DRPJO, devised a strategic operation to locate the culprits and rescue the child.
“With a lot of professionalism, we were able to identify the perpetrators and the place where they were keeping the child,” said the unit leader.
Following thorough investigations, the shocking revelation came to light: the mastermind behind the kidnapping was a close family member, well aware that the boy’s father lives in the United States.
We apprehended the suspects, who will now appear before a competent court for further proceedings.
This incident highlights the growing prevalence of kidnappings in the West Region, a phenomenon raising concerns among the public and authorities.
