Mbengwi Community Painfully Buries Two Sisters Killed in Limbe Accident

By Tata Mbunwe

Two Sisters, Gene Fri Mercy, 28, and her younger sister, Gene Sandra Nyoh, 20, killed in a motorbike accident in Limbe, are being laid to rest today. Family members, friends, and well-wishers gather at their family home in Mbengwi, Momo Division of the North West Region, to bid them farewell.

The two sisters died on June 29 in a motorbike accident at Ngeme, Limbe, after a car hit their bike, killing them and the bike rider.

Their mortal remains were removed from the Limbe Mile 1 mortuary on July 2 and transported to Mbengwi for burial at the family compound this July 3.

The news of their sudden deaths shocked many and left relatives, friends, and colleagues heartbroken.

Fri Mercy, the elder sister, is fondly remembered for her courage and her unwavering passion for women’s empowerment.

She was a member of iReBuild Africa, a Buea-based non-governmental organisation dedicated to supporting single mothers and empowering women.

“Mercy was more than just a team member at iReBuild Africa. She was a light, a fighter, and a passionate advocate for change. Her unwavering dedication to empowering young girls and women through our programs left a powerful mark on every life she touched,” the organisation wrote in her honour.

It continued: “She believed in the power of transformation. She worked tirelessly to make every girl feel seen, heard, and capable. Her compassion, strength, and creativity shaped the soul of our work, and her absence leaves an irreplaceable void.”

Mercy was also pursuing her dream of becoming an actor as a student at the Bamenda Film School.

“We will always remember her for her loving and team spirit,” the school said in a tribute on its Facebook page.

She also remained connected to her roots and was a member of the Mbengwi
