There are conflicting decisions on when Cameroon’s professional football leagues one and two will resume.
The country’s football Federation, FECAFOOT, headed by Seidou Mbombo Njoya has set Saturday, February 27th, and Sunday, February 28th for the kick-off of opening matches of professional football leagues 2 and 1 respectively.
The football officials say after the start on the above days, the rest of the other day matches of league 2 and 1 will take place on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th March 2021 respectively.
In a meeting, Tuesday, February 16th, 2021 at FECAFOOT headquarters in Yaounde chaired by Seidou Mbombo Njoya, club presidents and other football officials agreed to keep aside their differences and ensure the smooth resumption of the local football championships after over ten months of absence.
Twenty-nine club presidents out of thirty-five attended the meeting. They agreed that the championship will take place on two poles.
On the other hand, the football commission headed by senator Albert Mbida has indefinitely suspended Seidou Mbombo Njoya, Osih Joshua, Aboubarkar Konate, Gilbert Kadji, and twelve other football officials in FECAFOOT from all football activities.
The Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) had earlier suspended the administration of Seidou Mbombo Njoya at the helm of FECAFOOT on the grounds that the entire electoral process brought the executive into office did not respect the law.
It remains unclear if the championship will start as stated by FECAFOOT.
