In a global context marked by uncertainty, economic pressures, and rising social tensions, conversations around resilience are gaining renewed urgency. It is against this backdrop that TEDx Yaoundé 2026 held its second edition on April 19, 2026, at La Maison de la First Bank, Hypodrome in Yaoundé, under the theme “Unbreakable: Rethinking Resilience.”

The event, which kicked off at 10 a.m., attracted a diverse audience of thought leaders, entrepreneurs, students, educators, and innovators from Africa, Europe, and Asia. With 12 speakers and three keynote addresses, the conference positioned itself as a major platform for dialogue on resilience, innovation, and personal transformation.

Keynote Speakers Highlight Global and Local Perspectives

Among the keynote speakers were Minami Kentaro, Director General of CAMTEL, alongside Armand Claude Abanda and a representative from IAI Cameroon. Their interventions set the tone for a conference that blended global insights with local realities.

Drawing from Japan’s historical and environmental experiences, Minami Kentaro underscored resilience as the ability to rebuild and transform in the face of adversity. Referencing events such as the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings and recurring natural disasters, he described Japan’s recovery journey as a global benchmark. He urged participants to embrace failure as part of growth and to remain open to starting again.

Resilience as a Driver of Innovation and Growth

In his address, Armand Claude Abanda emphasized resilience as a critical driver of innovation and entrepreneurship. He encouraged participants to see challenges not as setbacks but as opportunities to create sustainable value in an increasingly dynamic and competitive environment.

International speakers added further depth to the discussions. Portia Mutunzi explored the concept of “invisible resilience,” shedding light on the silent struggles faced by many young Africans, while Jamie Steell highlighted the importance of redesigning systems and mindsets to recover and grow after failure.

Personal Stories and Collective Reflection

Through personal narratives and lived experiences, speakers connected strongly with the audience, making complex ideas accessible and relatable. Each session encouraged participants to reflect on their own journeys, reassess how they respond to challenges, and rethink their approach to growth and transformation.

Building Impact Through Community Engagement

Event organizer and license holder Nadia Habsatou Kalkaba reiterated that the goal of the platform goes beyond conversation. She described TEDx Yaoundé as a space designed to create real impact by bringing together youth, leaders, and entrepreneurs to exchange ideas and develop solutions to shared challenges.

Speakers consistently stressed the importance of healing as a foundation for resilience, encouraging participants to continuously “update their systems” and adapt to life’s evolving realities.

A Platform for Ideas, Growth, and Transformation

The 2026 edition of TEDx Yaoundé stood out as a vibrant hub for intellectual exchange and inspiration. Participants left with renewed motivation and a deeper understanding of resilience as a tool for both personal and collective transformation.

As the conversations continue beyond the event, the central message remains clear: resilience is not just about enduring hardship, but about evolving through it—and no one has to navigate that journey alone.
