Woman arrested in Guinea for praying while floating on water

A Guinean woman, Sayyada Fanta Sangaré, has been arrested after she was seen standing and praying on the sea without drowning.

The woman of Islamic faith was arrested on Thursday, June 22, 2023, by police officers.

“Sangaré was seen at the sea, where she laid a prayer rug on the surface and stood on it to pray, attracting the attention of beachgoers. A photo circulating on social media showed her floating on water, supported only by the prayer rug,” local media reported

Reacting to her arrest, Sayyada Fanta said, “As long as a man will fear Allah and obey Allah and his prophet and pray for Allah and his prophet and pray for him, Allah makes everything obey him including water and fire”

Police officials however said “her arrest was not related to her act of praying on the waves,”

The exact reason for her arrest was not disclosed.

It is unclear whether the woman has been released by the police or is still under detention.

The latest development has attracted a shed of opinions with many “debunking her floating as staged”, drawing parallels to Prophet Shepherd Bushiri‘s previous miracle where he appeared to levitate in the air.
